The Arch was a gathering place for crowds welcoming the visiting Prince of Wales.
Since the ascent of Mount Lofty (the highest point in the Hills at 727 metres) by Young Bingham Hutchinson in April 1837, tourism has attracted many to the Hills.
Unveiled by Lady Muriel Barclay-Harvey on 19 April 1941. Around 2000 people were reported to have attended.
