It is easy to imagine the exhilaration of the girl shooting down The Slide.

This vibrant bronze sculpture was created by John Dowie for the newly opened Rundle Mall. It was designed in response to a request by the architect of Rundle Mall, Ian Hannaford, for a ‘discovery piece’ that is ‘inconspicuous from a distance, then come upon by chance’.

The sculpture was a gift to the City of Adelaide by the chairman and directors of John Martin & Co. Pty Ltd. It was formally presented by Chairman Sir Edward Hayward to Lord Mayor John Roche in 1977. Also present at the handover were John Dowie and Minister of Transport and Local Government Geoff Virgo.
