The fountain was switched on by the Duke of Edinburgh on 28 May 1968
In May 1891 the boys were removed from their floating prison and returned to their old address at Magill. The Fitzjames was broken up soon after.
Named after King William IV, the name was chosen on 23 May 1837 by a Street Naming Committee made up of the governor and eleven prominent colonists.
