The railway, which ended at Victoria Square, ran from 2 August 1873 until replaced by new electric trams in 1929.
On 9 August 1850 Adelaide’s first synagogue was opened on acre 37, Rundle Street east. It was erected by the Adelaide Jewish Congregation. The congregation soon outgrew these premises and in 1870 a foundation stone was laid for a larger synagogue next door.
At the unveiling on 11 August 1894 military bands played and children from schools within the Adelaide City Council area sang the ‘Song of Australia’.
