The 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (7 RAR) was raised in 1965 and was part of Australia’s involvement within the Vietnam War. Since its raising, the Battalion has been engaged in Vietnam, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. The memorial plaque bares the green and maroon insignia of the unit as well as the badge of the regiment which holds the motto ‘Duty First’. The memorial was dedicated on 16 October 2015 and features two plaques: one as the dedication which displays the dates active tours and the second which lists those who were killed in active service.

7 RAR – ‘Duty First‘
The 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment was intially engaged in two tours of Vietnam in 1967 and 1971. After the withdrawal of this conflict in 1973, the 7 RAR was linked with the 5th Battalion to become the 5th/7th Battalion (5/7 RAR). This unit served as part of the mechanised infantry and was engaged in active service in East Timor and Iraq. It was only until 2007 that the 7 RAR was delinked and re-raised. The 7 RAR was given operational status two years later in January 2009.
