The 7th Australian Division AIF, was raised in Feberuary 1940, as aprt of the Second Australian Imperial Force (2nd AIF). It was recorded that the 7th Division was known by the nickname ‘The Silent Seventh’, due to the perception that their achievements weren’t as recognised, compared to the other Australians divisions. The origin of this nickname could stem from the censorhsip of the part the 7th Division played in the fighiting in the 1941Syria – Lebanon campaign. Interestingly, the 7th, 6th, and 9th Divisions were the only Australian Divisons to serve in both the Middle East and the South West Pacific Area.
