Known as the Iron Stores, the semicircular warehouses were the first waterfront warehouses in the colony—prefabricated in Britain, the Iron Stores were shipped to South Australia on the Buffalo in 1836 and erected at the old port, upstream of today’s Inner Harbor. The Iron Stores were shifted to Nile Street after the Port moved to its current location in 1840.
