Heavy grey pewter mug with glass base and elaborate handle, trophy for Port Adelaide Regatta, 1866.

History

Trophy was possibly made before 1866, maker’s marks cannot be seen. Held by the Port Adelaide Nautical Museum before the South Australian Maritime Museum.

Significance

The Port Adelaide Regattas, held annually, were an eagerly anticipated feature of Port Adelaide and Lefevre Peninsula life. The South Australian Maritime Museum holds a series of photographs of the Regatta, and this trophy serves as a physical contribution to the collection.
