Jacob Pitman began construction of the first Council Chamber on the current site in July 1843. It was completed in time for the inaugural session of the new legislature on 10 October.
On 14 September 1865 Dr Richard Schomburk began work as the Director of Adelaide’s Botanic Garden, succeeding GW Francis.
On 22 September 1871, Mary MacKillop was excommunicated for alleged insubordination by Bishop Sheil in the Chapel of Saint Mary’s Convent and School.
