The 2/43rd Infantry Battalion was formed in a Woodside camp, near Adelaide, South Australia. The battalion was first raised on the 17th of July 1940, as a part of the 8th Divisions 24th Brigade and was then transferred to the 9th Division in December. From there the 2/43rd left South Australia for Melbourne, where it joined the convoy going to the Middle East. A few notable achievements: the 2/43rd Battalion fought in the Capture of Lae, the defence of Tobruk, Boreno and more.
