The founding of Flinders University significantly increased the total population of South Australian research scientists, and their opportunities for collaborative work. Important contributions have been made at Flinders in theoretical physics, experimental biology, plant physiology, and various branches of medical science, while Flinders also introduced to South Australia the disciplines of meteorology and oceanography, among others.
