McLaren Wharf is officially opened by Governor George Gawler
The stainless steel Spheres (popularly known as the ‘Mall’s Balls’ or ‘Bert’s Balls’) were designed by sculptor Bert Flugelman (1923–2013) and installed on 5 October 1977.
Construction begins on the Port Adelaide Institute building. It opens to great fanfare on 23 October 1876
